After working with the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival as A2 the previous year, I was asked to return as a co sound designer for the next production. The Tempest is the most ambitious play in Shakespeare's repertoire as far as sound was concerned. With a storm sequence at the beginning and several songs that appear, it was the biggest show I'd ever designed to that point. Add to that that the show would be outdoors, dealing with 20+ wireless mics, and it was to be performed live, and I was certainly going to be a busy beaver. The Tempest was to be Heart of America's summer 2020 production, but it unfortunately was postponed due to COVID-19. However, this was an exciting project to design, and some elements may eventually be picked up from when the show resumes production.
Below are examples of the work that I finished before the show was postponed. The music was composed by co sound designer, Greg Mackender, with additional music provided by Amado Espinoza. The photos were provided by Greg, and the scenic model by the scenic designer, Gene Friedman.
