My debut as a sound designer at BYU, this show had been in the works for about two years. Like many shows, it was disrupted by COVID 19 and put on hold. Production started up again in January 2021 and I was brought in to replace the previous designer. The concept was 1950s sci-fi, with the twist being that many of the effects were being performed live, and with stock music. Working closely with Josh Romney, we spent a lot of time determining the right props for the effects and doing mic tests on each effect. The props ranged from a theremin, a taser, celery, and metal fingertips.
This was an enjoyable experience for me and, with directors Tom and Courtney Russell at the helm, a superb collaboration between the different design elements.
