An Italian Straw Hat was produced October 2019. It was a stage play that was turned into a musical by the director. This was my first time designing for a musical, and so I had to work within the budget of a typical stage play. This was also designed in the Spencer Theater at UMKC and thus was the biggest stage I had designed for. The music was orchestrated by Zack Pierson (https://www.zackpierson.com/) to sound more authentic to the spirit of the 1850s but not necessarily be strictly true to the instrumentation of the time. While beautifully staged and designed, the set was not designed with sound requirements in mind, and so I had to do some creative thinking in order to deliver a product worthy of the quality of the show.
Below is included a piano bit that I recorded for the show and several extended tracks.
